Mandurah Mayoral candidate Mark Brzezinski hopes to bring his technical skills to the top job saying it has been lacking in the past.
Mark Brzezinski was born in Perth to Polish Catholic concentration camp survivors, moved to Mandurah when he was eight and back again 15 years ago to retire.
The 57-year-old decided to run for Mandurah's top job after looking at candidates at the last three council elections.
"I couldn't see anyone that I could look up to, who was an achiever in business and could actually mentor people so that they could be successful in what they were doing.
"So I thought if this time I couldn't see a candidate I could respect, I will put myself forward."
As well as a medical and business background Mr Brzezinski said his passion is engineering - electrical and mechanical - and computer science.
"There's a very diverse skill set there which is very important if you are a mayor because in the City of Mandurah they employ many professional and diverse people and you have to be able to communicate with those people.
"I found with the previous mayors, they may be very good in public but it's been a little bit lacking at the technical level so I think that's what I can offer."
