Premier officially opens Optus Stadium

Premier Mark McGowan has officially opened the gates at Optus Stadium this morning.

Around 15,000 people from across WA have had their first glimpse of the state of the art venue gloating 60 thousand seats, 15 thousand LED lights, two massive screens and of course three choices of beer.

The 1.6 billion dollar facility also holds 1,200 WiFi access points, 600 bike racks, and more than a thousand toilets.

"The most important thing about this stadium is it shows Western Australians can do anything." Mr McGowan said.

The Premier was quick to acknowledge predecessor Colin Barnett for his work in making the stadium a reality.

"I want to thank Colin for all his work and perseverance."

Anyone holding open day tickets can try out the seats, take a one-hour tour of the venue and check out the brand new playing surface.

The first real test for Optus Stadium will be the One Day Cricket International on January 28 followed by the venues first concert from Ed Sheeran on March 3.
