Police have arrested one man following an alleged armed robbery at a Silver Sands newsagency.
Around 4.30pm on Tuesday a hammer-wielding man confronted staff members at the Silver Sands newsagency demanding cash.
Fairfax reports staff refused the 33-year-old's request as he began to wave the weapon and yell abuse at employees.
The man proceeded to jump the counter and reportedly began taking money from the register.
At the same time a teenage staff member took cover in the stores back room, while other staff helped a customer out of the shop.
Nearby shop owners helped staff in an attempt to block the man in the store, but once this failed they proceeded to chase the man across the carpark and successfully hold the man down with the help of bystander.
According to Fairfax the newsagency store manage spotted Police at the nearby traffic light intersection and waved them down.
Officers then arrested the man, it's not yet known if charges have been laid or how much stock and cash he stole.
