A new public access jetty will be built at the Mandurah Ocean Marina thanks to a funding boost from the McGowan Government.
Nine projects across the state have been approved thanks to money awarded in the latest round of the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme funding.
Mandurah will share in the $1.5 million to construct a new 50m public universal access floating jetty at the Ocean Marina.
The new jetty will cost $157,722.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the grants would go towards upgrading the WA coastline.
“Upgrading recreational boating facilities adds to the amenity of communities close to WA’s beautiful waterways, and in some cases assist with local tourism and employment," she said.
“Boating and fishing is a way of life for many Western Australians and these grants are an acknowledgment of that local culture.
“I look forward to seeing the progress each local government makes on their projects following these grants.”
Boating facility managers can apply to the Department of Transport for grants of up to 75 per cent of the estimated project cost, with the maximum amount limited to $750,000.
Applications can be made for the planning, construction or upgrade of boat launching ramps, jetties, moorings and new channels that are directly related to a public boating facility.
