The City of Rockingham is letting motorists know now about alternative parking arrangements when major works start on the Mersey Point Jetty next month.
The $1.5 million project will provide a new 76 metre long jetty constructed out of steel piles with reinforced concrete headstocks and deck panels.
With a projected lifespan of approximately 50 years, the structure will accommodate commercial vessel berthing and will also include handrails to both sides and a steel frame lower level landing suitable for short-term recreational boating vessel berthing.
During the works the contractor will need to close off part of the Mersey Point Jetty car park, reducing the number of available parking spaces for the duration of the project.
Visitors are asked to utilise one of the alternative parking options available on Penguin Road, at the end of Seaforth Street located on Arcadia Drive.
The City apologises for any inconvenience caused during the construction period.
Tourism Western Australia is supporting the project with $500,000 and local operator, Rockingham Wild Encounters will contribute a percentage of the capital costs over several years as part of their agreement to use the new jetty.
Works on the Mersey Point Jetty will be commencing in late September and run through until January 2018.
