A record number of nominations have been locked for the City of Mandurah race to become a councillor for the October 21 local government elections.
People with a passion for serving the community and contributing towards the decision-making process of local government were encouraged to nominate for the seven vacancies on Council.
There is one vacancy each on the North and Coastal wards, two vacancies each on the East and Town wards, and the position of Mayor, all with four-year terms.
Nominations opened on September 7 and closed at 4pm yesterday.
Mandurah Returning Officer Ian Frame said eight nominations were received on the last day for a total of 29 but the actual number of people running for a position on Council is 28 with one candidate also running for Mayor.
Mr Frame conducted the ballot draw straight after the nomination deadline with Mark Brzezinski topping the ballot for Mayor, followed by Peter Jackson, Rhys Williams and current Mayor Marina Vergone.
