A 50-year-old man is in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed three times with a pair of scissors outside his Highgate home on Wednesday.
Police say the man and a woman went to check on the welfare of the 45-year-old man, who was lying face down on the garden area outside their residence, near the corner of Lincoln Street and Beaufort Street around 5.55pm.
It's alleged the man stood up and became aggressive and punched the 30-year-old woman in the face, before heading toward Perth along Beaufort Street.
When further challenged by the pair, it's alleged the man armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed the man three times.
Police and St John Ambulance personnel were called to the scene and the 50-year-old was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where he is likely to undergo surgery.
Authorities were able to locate the man matching the description of the offender near the intersection of Newcastle Street and Beaufort Street in Perth.
Police say the man was initially aggressive towards the officers causing them to draw their tasers, at which point the man became compliant and was arrested without incident.
The 45-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Thursday September 10.
