Fresh new spaces come to life at Dawesville foreshore

Fresh new spaces have come to life on the Dawesville foreshore.

The south-east Dawesville channel foreshore, on the corner of Estuary Road and Thisbe Drive, has been transformed into a family friendly area overlooking the iconic Peel-Harvey Estuary.

The new spaces include a big, fenced playground area with swings and slides, grassed picnic areas, shaded seating, wide path connections, barbecues, and extra car parking.

There is also a half-court for basketball and netball.

Existing tuart and sheoak trees were protected during the construction works, plus a further 66 native trees and 4000 native plants will be planted in the area.

Mayor Caroline Knight said the new foreshore spaces provide an inviting place for locals.

“We’re excited to welcome everyone to these refreshed spaces on the Dawesville foreshore – I am blown away with the transformation of what was an underused area,” Mayor Knight said.

“This new family area adds to a network of close to 400 parks and open spaces, and more than 140 playgrounds throughout our city for people to come together. It’s a beautiful spot to sit and relax by the water while enjoying family time – I can see it will be very popular with our community.

“There’s a range of exciting projects underway in Mandurah’s south, including the Dawesville Community Centre which is nearing completion, all catering to a growing population and looking to the future.”

A special community event, Play by the Bay, will be held to celebrate the new area on Saturday, July 26 from 12noon – 2pm.

The event will feature a free sausage sizzle by the Falcon Lions Club, coffee van, live music, and family activities will.

City of Mandurah Councillors will also be holding a Community Chat at the event, with people encouraged to come and talk to their local representatives and stay informed about what’s happening in the area.
