The McGowan Government have announced a ban on fracking in the Peel Region.
The McGowan Government have achieved a successful legislative fracking ban in the South-West, Peel and Perth regions.
The announcement comes today after the McGowan Government published regulations confirming the states earlier administrative ban on hydraulic fracture stimulation in these areas.
There is currently a temporary fracking ban for the rest of the state, while scientific inquiry is underway.
The inquiry will address community concerns around fracking and should end within 12 months.
Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston said the community's views will be considered during the inquiry into a permanent statewide ban of fracking.
"While the fracking ban in the South-West, Peel and Perth regions has already been achieved, the regulations provide a permanent ban in these areas." he said.
Community members can express their views to the inquiry online, submissions are open until March 19, 2018.
