Construction to begin on Cooloongup Skate Park

The City of Rockingham will begin works on the new Cooloongup Skate Park immediately, with the existing skate park at Alf Powell Reserve set to be demolished and replaced.

Upgrades to the skate park come after an asset audit by the City in 2015 identified that the original skate park was due for replacement. The new design will provide more space for users and will be able to accommodate skate, scooter and BMX riders of all skill levels.

Once upgrades are complete the skate park will have a variety of features including:
-   An enclosed transition area with pump bumps, taco and ramp extensions.
-   A street line with ramps, rail, kerbs and ledges.
-   A separate mini ramp.

The facility will also feature a shade shelter with seating and bins.

“The new Cooloongup Skate Park will be an exciting addition to Alf Powell Reserve and has been designed following extensive community feedback,” City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said.

“The City developed a concept design for the skate park in early 2019 and then asked for feedback from local residents, young people at the nearby primary school and the City’s Skate Reference Group.

“Once complete, the Cooloongup Skate Park will be a family friendly recreation space that community members will be able to enjoy for many years to come.”

The Cooloongup Skate Park project follows similar works that were carried out in 2019 to Port Kennedy Skate Park, located at Veterans Memorial Park.

Approximately $625,000 has been budgeted for the Cooloongup Skate Park project, which is inclusive of all planning, design and construction costs.

Works on the Cooloongup Skate Park will be carried out by Convic and are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
