Read the statement from Transperth.
We are reducing the need for our bus drivers to handle cash on Transperth bus services.
Buses are being fitted with a cash box near the driver, into which passengers still using cash should drop their money before the driver issues a ticket or adds value to a SmartRider.
We anticipate these boxes will be installed over the next few days. You will still be able to buy a cash ticket or add value to your SmartRider but where a cash box has been fitted, no change will be given.
We recommend that passengers who usually buy cash fares on the Transperth system consider buying a SmartRider card. Also, we ask that passengers who usually add value to their SmartRider on board a bus, use alternative methods of adding value, such as Autoload.
We understand that this may be inconvenient for some passengers, but our priority at the moment is the safety of everyone on our system.
For further help or information about SmartRider, visit transperth.wa.gov.au or call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 (TIS: 13 14 50). Hearing or speech impaired? Call via NRS 133 677 and ask for 13 62 13.
