Murray resident, philanthropist and long-term Murray Leisure Centre member Wilbur Graham has honored his commitment to mind and body health, enjoying his 2000th Centre visit in over six years of membership.
Murray Shire President Maree Reid as well as Leisure Centre members and staff gathered to commemorate Wilbur’s achievement at a morning tea held at the Centre recently.
Wilbur’s goal was to reach his 2000th visit by his 83rd birthday, which he celebrated on the same day as the morning tea.
According to Councillor Reid, Wilbur’s daily exercise regime sees the Centre’s hydrotherapy pool rippled with splashes and waves at 6:00am each morning.
“Since joining the Centre on 23 April, 2011 to keep active and meet new people, Wilbur has cemented his presence becoming a Centre gem, loved by staff and fellow patrons alike.
“2000 visits over six years is an almost perfect daily attendance record and if keeping an active mind and body is the key to health, longevity and maintaining a positive outlook on life, Wilbur Graham is a shining example and a true inspiration."
Wilbur has been a volunteer for over 12 years, assisting as a math tutor for pupils at Pinjarra Primary School through their EdConnect program.
He swims daily to keep his body healthy and frequents Pinjarra Primary School daily to keep his brain active and stay out of the nursing home.
